Welcome to the first edition of Live Like Locals Where’s The Money?! But first, I have some questions for you:

  1. How often do you think of MONEY?
  2. What specifically do you think about when you think of money?
  3. How important is the subject of how money works?

When asked to write a weekly article, I was immediately excited but also challenged by this new task. How do you educate people about money once a week without being overwhelming? How do you help people with limited space weekly? How do you cover topics that can change people’s financial lives that people are not taught? Money is a subject not taught in school, but understanding how it works and how to handle it is one of the most important skills everyone needs. I heard a friend say, “Money is not the most important thing, but it’s right up there with the air we breathe.”

But then I calmed down, took a breath, and realized, you have been doing this for close to 30 years. Then I remembered the most important response I received from people I help – “thank you for explaining that in a way I can understand.”

So welcome to the first weekly series teaching key financial principles in a common-sense way that is understandable, practical, and life-changing. I pray that you come back each Wednesday, set a reminder to check Live Like Locals, and learn principles that can change your and your family’s financial future. We’ll cover a mix of personal and small business financial topics and principles, and we look forward to receiving feedback, questions, and input so the LLL staff can tell me what you want. Make this your article, not mine.

I’m excited and passionate about helping you! We will also include helpful resources to assist you in reaching your goals and dreams.

Join me at the Live Like Locals Social Spring Showcase on Thursday, May 7th, at Pilot & Park, and at Kia Country of Savannah on Thursday, May 14th. I look forward to meeting you and answering any questions you may have!

Market Insights

  • Stocks were mixed last week as investors gauged potential outcomes of the Middle East conflict amid an ongoing ceasefire.
  • Oil prices rose above $100/barrel, and all three major stock averages closed higher, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq logging new all-time highs.
  • Consumer sentiment dipped to an all-time low with concerns over inflation, the job market, and geopolitical tensions, but consumers keep spending. The retail sales report for last week shows that consumer spending rose 1.7% in March, the highest monthly rise in almost 3 years.

Thought for the Week:

I took the wishbone from the rotisserie chicken in our kitchen to my wife in the bedroom, and I said, “Let’s go! Pull.” She won, and I said, “You always win.”

She replied, “Because I expect to win.”

Expect to win in everything that you do. Have a great remainder of the week!
