Port Wentworth Today, August 2026: The Massa Center, August Recreation and Meet the Mayor

A new landmark is coming to downtown, the Recreation Department has packed August with things to do, and residents got face time with the mayor.

In the August 2026 episode of Port Wentworth Today, we take a first look at the Massa Center, run down everything Port Wentworth Recreation has planned for the month, recap the latest Meet the Mayor and check in on Anchor Park.

The Massa Center Is Coming to South Coastal Highway

One of the busiest corridors in Port Wentworth is about to get a new landmark. The Massa Center will be a mixed-use project at 205 South Coastal Highway, turning a vacant restaurant building into a real gathering spot.

The plan includes a takeout style restaurant, two retail and office spaces and four apartments upstairs, with a rooftop set aside for future use. It brings new life to a high visibility corridor and adds to the character of a growing main street. We will keep following the Massa Center as it moves forward.

Meet the Mayor With Mayor Tracy Saunders

On Monday, July 20, Mayor Tracy Saunders hosted Meet the Mayor, an in-person evening at Abrazo at Rice Hope. Residents came out to hear directly from the mayor and ask their questions face to face.

These evenings are one of the best ways to stay connected to what is happening in the city and to have your voice heard. If you missed this one, we will let you know when the next Meet the Mayor is on the calendar.

Anchor Park Keeps Taking Shape

We always check in on Anchor Park. The 150 acre sports and entertainment complex continues to take shape, anchored by the VyStar Pavilion and the Ice Cove, the training facility for the Savannah Ghost Pirates. The park is still under active construction, with official access only, and we will keep bringing you progress every month.
