Port Wentworth Today, October 2026: Ice Cove Opening, GSU Hockey, Garba Festival and Fall Fun

The Ice Cove is open, the VyStar Pavilion has a full calendar, and the Recreation Department has packed October with something for every age.

In this month’s episode of Port Wentworth Today, hosts Cheri Cobb and Maria Solesbee take you inside the grand opening, catch a college hockey game, and walk through every Port Wentworth event worth putting on your calendar this October.

The VyStar Pavilion and Ice Cove Grand Opening

The grand opening of the VyStar Pavilion and the Ghost Pirates Ice Cove was the party of the year. We were there, and we met so many residents, including plenty of people rediscovering Port Wentworth all over again.

Congratulations to the City of Port Wentworth, Oak View Group and Zawyer Sports on bringing it home. If you missed the day itself, our 912 Community Day recap has the full story.

The official ribbon cutting for the Ice Cove was September 12, but the rink was busy before that. A youth hockey tournament during the soft opening brought roughly 400 players, coaches and family members to Port Wentworth. Watching kids out on the ice is when the opening started to feel real.

GSU Men’s Hockey Opens Its Season at the Ice Cove

The Ice Cove was the place to be in September. We were rinkside for the GSU men’s hockey season opener against the College of Charleston. The scoreboard did not go the Eagles’ way, but it was a great night of hockey, and we hope to see them back in Port Wentworth soon.

Port Wentworth Events This October

The City of Port Wentworth Recreation Department is full of some of our favorite people in the city. Some of our team tried line dancing at the gym, and we cannot recommend it enough. It is a lot of fun and a real workout.

Here is what the Recreation Department has lined up this month. Grab your calendar.

  • Trick or Tee, October 3. Golf in a Halloween costume for kids ages 5 to 12. Come dressed up and learn to play.
  • Line dancing, October 9 and 23. No experience needed, just a willingness to learn a step or two. Bring your best friend.
  • Garba Festival, October 10. The city’s first Garba Festival, at the VyStar Pavilion. More below.
  • Fall Festival, October 16. Food, a costume contest and a movie at sundown.
  • Haunted experience, October 27 to 29. Brave enough? This one is built to make you scream.
  • Winter sports registration is open now. Basketball and cheer spots go fast, so register today.

Looking Back at La Fiesta Hispana

La Fiesta Hispana was the first festival the City of Port Wentworth has held inside the VyStar Pavilion, and the crowd danced all night. Los Adolescentes brought the energy on stage.

Maria co-emceed the night with Yanira Salamanca. The two also host a Spanish-language show together on Live Like Locals Latinos.

Invitation: The First Garba Festival, October 10

The City of Port Wentworth is hosting its first annual Garba Festival on Saturday, October 10 at the VyStar Pavilion in Anchor Park, starting at 6 PM. Admission is free.

Garba and Dandiya Raas are folk dances from Gujarat, India, where dancers move together in a circle to lively music, often with colorful sticks. Members of the planning committee invite everyone to come out. No experience is needed. Bring your energy, wear your brightest colors and bring the whole family. Dinner is served early in the evening, with a traditional Indian snack later in the night.

Get the details and RSVP on the Garba Festival event page.

Invitation: Port Wentworth Fall Festival, October 16

On Friday, October 16, the Port Wentworth Fall Festival runs from 5:30 to 9 PM. Local kids will perform, and there will be a kid zone with bounce houses, food trucks, vendors and a movie on the big screen as the sun goes down. Come dressed to impress, because there is a costume contest too.

Everything you need is on the Fall Festival event page.
